The Spiritual Gift of Miracles

δυνάμεων (doo’-nam-eeon) — inherent power — ability working from within. English derivative: dynamite, dynamo, dynamic. The word describes resident power that produces miraculous effects when God directs it.

Miracles as Named
Aaron’s staff turned to a serpent and swallowed the rods of Pharaoh’s magicians (EXO 7:8-13). Jesus fed five thousand from five loaves and two fish (JOH 6:8-14). Balaam’s donkey spoke with a man’s voice (NUM 22:28-31). Moses parted the Red Sea (EXO 14:21).
Miracles as Signs
Miracles are signs that point beyond themselves to the power and authority of God. They are not ends in themselves — they authenticate the messenger and the message. God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul (ACS 9:11) — the miracle served the Gospel.
Serving in Miracles
Avoid seeking miracles as spiritual entertainment. Avoid claiming personal credit for what God has done. Avoid using the gift to build a following rather than to build the Church.
